Warehousing and Distribution

DDA Building Services Consulting Engineers are proud to provide expertise for the design and project engineering of major warehousing and distribution developments.

Recent projects include the scheme development of two new high bay automated warehouses for a major high street and internet retailer. The warehouses are for boxed and pallet pick, both are fully automated with only limited manual picking. The two buildings can process up to 110,000 pallets and include the largest warehouse in the client’s 13-site distribution network handling a total 315 million units each year. The network makes 88,000 deliveries every year to 500 stores across the UK and to 2.6 million active internet customers.

The site was an un-serviced brown field site just outside Rotherham. Being involved from initial concept stage allowed the delivery of a fully co-ordination design. New infrastructure network was installed around the site, including a client owned 4.5MVA high voltage ring main and full on site standby generation.

Our internal designers worked in close collaboration with the client, materials handling contractor, principal contractor and sub-contractors to deliver a world class distribution centre. This scheme which operates the most state-of-the-art technology of its kind in Europe, was delivered both on time and below initial budgets.
