Accommodation

DDA Building Services Consulting Engineers were employed to undertake the detailed concept M&E design for the new student accommodation at Trippet Lane, Sheffield.

Working in close partnership with Leeds-based property firm KMRE Group and Voke Consulting, on behalf of Empiric Student Property plc, the DDA team developed the detailed concept M&E design for a new seven storey 63-bedroom student accommodation block. This brilliantly located site is within 100 metres of the University of Sheffield’s North campus, but was subject to a number of the construction constraints common to many built up city centre sites. DDA was able to share our depth of knowledge of working in congested locations, while providing a cost effective and energy conscious scheme.

Sheffield is home to two large universities and has the 6th biggest student population outside of London. This modern development offers Sheffield's university residents some of the highest quality accommodation available with a choice from beautifully designed contemporary studios through to three bedroom apartments. Shared facilities include an on-site gym, a cinema and a cosy common room.

Integrated services have formed a large part of the feel and liveability of the development, reflecting the high standard required not only by the client, but also by the end user.

One of the less visible service integrations was the extension of the Sheffield’s District Energy Network heating system

(executed by Veolia) to provide domestic hot water to the entire development. District Energy has a CO2 emissions factor significantly lower than a gas fired heating system. The system allows designers and developers to meet targets for improving air quality in the city centre through the reduction in NOx levels.
