Co-ordination

Traditionally the construction industry views Building Services as separate disciplines i.e. Mechanical, Ventilation, Electrical, Sprinklers etc, each designed with its own criteria.

If the Building services are to be installed in a productive and aesthetic manner then co-ordination of services is vital.

Dave Dickinson and Associates Ltd consider that the principal services cannot be developed in isolation and the interactive nature of the building services with each other, and with the building fabric necessitates co-ordination not only with the respective disciplines but with all parties involved in the design and construction process.

Sensible co-ordination of services and effective utilisation of space is an intrinsic part of the design and construction process and if neglected will lead to additional contract costs and delays in the construction programme.

An accurate and detailed appraisal of the completed M&E installation design intent, will influence the installation programme, avoid the majority of services clashes, obviate any practical site problems and consider the maintenance of plant and equipment whilst maintaining good site record drawings which can finally be included in the operating and maintenance manuals.

Dave Dickinson & Associates Ltd have undertaken this role (the M&E designs have been produced by third parties with little thought for co-ordination) on several large projects notably Sheffield Arena, Luton Crown Courts, Leeds Magistrates Courts,Belgravia Police Station Central London & 2 No High Schools in Clydebank
